About Marisa


Marisa De Silva is a singer, voice teacher, and Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique in Orange County, California. As a singer she has been invited to numerous music festivals around the world where she has distinguished herself particularly in the Spanish, Ibero-American, and American New Music repertoire.

Ms. De Silva has also been an active member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) and has taught voice privately as well as through higher education institutions for more than ten years. Her students have been accepted into many prestigious music schools including Indiana University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Cal State Fullerton.

Ms. De Silva is also an AmSAT (American Society for the Alexander Technique) Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique. She completed her 1600-hour training over four years at Alexander Technique Urbana where she studied with master teachers, Rose Bronec and Rick Carbaugh. During her training she taught the Alexander Technique through the Department of Dance of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In the summer of 2009, she served as faculty member at the Barcelona Festival of Song where she taught Alexander Technique to singers and pianists. She is also a frequent guest lecturer at various schools of music. In 2009 she was invited by the music department of the University of Illinois for a masterclass and in 2010 she was invited by both Azusa Pacific University and Orange County High School of the Arts for a series of lectures on the Alexander Technique and voice.

Ms. De Silva is in high demand as a teacher of both Voice and the Alexander Technique. Through her specialized training in the Alexander Technique, she is keen at noticing what may be interfering with a natural functioning of the voice and is able to help students find and develop their own unique and special voices to their fullest potential. She has private studios both in Santa Ana and Los Angeles where she teaches voice and Alexander Technique.

Being raised in Japan, Ms. De Silva is a true international and enjoys sharing her love of music and working with students of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities. She resides in Orange County with her husband, Arasp and is also fluent in Japanese.
